Thomas Bruttger

Thomas Bruttger was born in Viersen/Germany in 1954 and studied music teaching
and musicology, later composition with N.A. Huber at the Folkwang Hochschule
Essen/Germany. Already during his course, he recieved the Folkwangprize for
composition. Supported by a scholarship from the DAAD, he took a course in composition
with Iannis Xenakis at the Sorbonne. At the same time he attended lectures in
music analysis by Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez. In 1985-88 he was editor
at the publishing house Bärenreiter in Kassel/Germany, where he co-founded
the "Kassel composers initiative" and organized numerous concert of
national and international renown, e.g. as part of the "document IX"
Since 1988 he teaches at the Folkwang Hochschule.
Thomas Bruttger recieved numerous commissions for compositions: his music was performed at important festivals like the Darstädter Ferienkurse, Emsemblia Mönchengladbach, World Music Days in Mexiko D.F. 1993 etc. and were produced for broadcasting.
His works include pieces for solo instruments, chamber music, pieces for ensemble and orchestra as well as electronic music.
